Manchester United Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
